Sadiq Khan Slammed for Backing EU’s Hidden Plan to Flood UK with Migrants in Major Brexit Betrayal

The European Union is continuing to pressure the UK for a looser and easier migration deal, especially for younger people. They are pushing hard for something called the Youth Mobility Scheme, which would allow people aged 18 to 30 from the EU to move to the UK more freely, without strict limits or purposes like work or study. This has raised major concerns among those who supported Brexit, who feel such a move could undo much of what was voted for when the UK decided to leave the EU.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has strongly supported the idea. In a detailed post on social media, he called Brexit’s impact “heartbreaking,” especially because it took away the right to live, work, and travel freely across Europe. He argued that this scheme would not only reconnect young people with Europe but would also help boost the economy. According to Khan, bringing in young workers from the EU could help fill important job gaps and drive growth in London and across Britain. He believes the scheme would support better-paying jobs and improve skills training for people in the UK.

Khan also said that this is a critical time in European history and urged the UK Government to take the chance to make this deal happen. Even though the UK politically cut ties with the EU over five years ago, he believes now is the right time to build a new kind of partnership.

However, many Brexit supporters and Conservative politicians are worried. They say the Youth Mobility Scheme could lead to a huge number of migrants entering the UK every year, especially if there’s no cap on how many people can come. They point out that, unlike similar deals the UK has with countries like Australia and New Zealand — which have limits — this EU version could be open-ended.

Data already shows that the majority of EU citizens who moved to Britain between 2012 and 2024 were under 30 years old. In some years, as many as 65% of all EU workers coming to the UK were in this age range. This means the new scheme could return migration numbers to pre-Brexit levels, or even higher.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said the plan looks like “Free Movement by the back door.” He also warned that some EU countries give citizenship to migrants just three years after they’ve been granted asylum, meaning those people could also gain easy access to the UK under this scheme. He blamed Keir Starmer for not standing firm and accused him of being a weak negotiator, pointing to other international deals that many believe didn’t benefit the UK.

Reform UK MP Lee Anderson also criticized the plan, saying it would completely go against what the British people voted for during the Brexit referendum. He believes allowing hundreds of thousands more EU citizens into the UK is a betrayal.

Sadiq Khan, on the other hand, called this new EU proposal a “golden opportunity” and a “landmark moment” for the government. He hinted that this deal could bring the UK closer to the EU in the future, especially in how both sides manage the movement of young people.

Meanwhile, EU leaders are reportedly demanding that young Europeans should be allowed to come to the UK without needing a clear reason and without being limited by quotas. This could be one of the most significant parts of the new UK-EU summit taking place on Monday. Starmer and EU officials will also be discussing other issues like fishing rights and trade rules.

But many in the UK are worried that Keir Starmer may give in too easily. Critics have already accused him of making too many compromises with countries like India, the US, and Mauritius. Now, with this youth migration plan on the table, some feel he could be giving too much power back to Brussels at a time when Britain should be holding on to its independence.
