A tense moment took place in the House of Commons when Lee Anderson strongly challenged Labour leader Keir Starmer during a debate. Anderson, clearly frustrated, stood up and asked what many saw as a simple and direct question about climate policy. He said that every week he comes to Parliament to ask serious questions and expects serious answers—but instead, he gets blank stares and unclear replies.
This time, his question was about the UK’s Net Zero goals. He asked, “If we became Net Zero tomorrow, by how much would it reduce the Earth’s temperature?” It was a question meant to get a clear answer that people across the country could understand.
But instead of answering directly, Keir Starmer spoke in general terms. He talked about how Net Zero is a big opportunity for creating jobs, boosting the economy, and growing the country. Then, he went on to criticize others for complaining about his policies without offering better ideas. He also made a joke about Anderson’s party, saying he couldn’t even lead a group big enough to fill a taxi.
Many people felt Starmer avoided the question completely. Lee Anderson certainly thought so. After the debate, during an interview with GB News, he didn’t hold back. He said Starmer gave a pathetic response and that it wasn’t really a response at all. He said either Starmer didn’t know the answer or he did know and was too embarrassed to say it out loud.
Anderson’s criticism has sparked reactions online. Some people agree with him and feel that political leaders should be able to give clear and honest answers to important questions. Others believe Starmer was simply trying to explain the bigger picture and that the issue isn’t as simple as one number.
Either way, the moment has left many wondering whether politicians are really listening to the concerns of everyday people—or just talking in circles.
