‘That’s a lie!’ Moment Keir Starmer is slapped down in fiery PMQs clash

A Conservative MP caused a commotion in Parliament today during Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) by shouting at Labour leader Keir Starmer. Her outburst interrupted the session, forcing the Speaker of the House to step in and demand that she take back her words.

The argument started when Keir Starmer strongly criticized the Conservative government over education funding. He accused them of pretending to support state schools while failing to hire enough teachers to meet students’ needs. His comments sparked a heated exchange in the House of Commons.

As soon as Starmer finished speaking, Conservative MP and Shadow Environment Secretary Victoria Atkins shouted loudly, “That is a lie!” Her remark broke a key rule in Parliament, which does not allow MPs to accuse each other of lying.

Immediately, Labour MPs reacted with anger, shouting at her to apologize. The Speaker of the House, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, stood up and intervened, reminding everyone of the rules. He turned to Atkins and said, “I presume something was said that shouldn’t have been. I’m sure the member would like to take it back?”

Realizing she had broken the rules, Atkins responded with a brief, “Withdrawn,” meaning she took back her words. With that, the Speaker allowed PMQs to continue.

This incident highlights the ongoing tension between the Labour and Conservative parties, especially on important issues like education funding.
