Canadian Prime Minister Responds to Trump, Says His Win Shows ‘Backward Ideas’ Are Taking Over America And Women Right Are In Danger (VIDEO)
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that Donald Trump’s election win shows that women’s rights are in danger and that old-fashioned, backward ideas are becoming stronger in the United States.
Trudeau, who often calls himself a “proud feminist” and is known for supporting women’s equality, made these comments while speaking at the Equal Voice Foundation on Tuesday.
He argued that Trump and his political ideas are pushing the United States away from progress and moving it in the wrong direction.
“It wasn’t supposed to be this way,” Trudeau said in his speech. “We were supposed to keep moving forward, even if the journey was sometimes difficult.
But a few weeks ago, the United States, for the second time, chose not to elect its first woman president.”
Trudeau continued by saying, “Everywhere, women’s rights and progress are being attacked — sometimes openly and sometimes in hidden ways.
But I want everyone to know that I am and will always be a proud feminist. You can always count on my support and that of my government.”
Trudeau’s comments came shortly after Donald Trump won the recent U.S. election, defeating Kamala Harris, who was running for president.
This result was likely disappointing to Trudeau and his left-leaning government, as they had hoped for a leader with more progressive views.
Last week, Trudeau and Trump met at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort to talk about important issues between the U.S. and Canada. They discussed topics like trade and the lack of strong border security between the two countries.
However, even after the meeting, Trump made fun of Trudeau by calling him the “governor” of Canada, even though Canada is an independent country and not part of the United States.
On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump wrote, “It was great to have dinner the other night with Governor Justin Trudeau of the Great State of Canada.
I look forward to our future talks on tariffs and trade, and I know the results will be amazing for everyone!”
Trump’s comment about Trudeau being a “governor” seemed to mock the Canadian leader and ignore the fact that Canada is a sovereign nation.
Despite this, the meeting showed that the two leaders are trying to keep relations between the U.S. and Canada on track, even with their political differences.
