A man accused of brutally stabbing his ex-girlfriend multiple times died in a car accident while trying to escape from the police.
This tragic series of events took place early on Friday morning in Chuluota, Florida. Deputies responded to a call about two people who had been stabbed in a home.
According to Sheriff Dennis Lemma, the first victim, 40-year-old Kristin Stevens, was found dead inside the home. She had been stabbed up to 70 times with what appeared to be a kitchen knife.
A second victim, a man whose name was not shared, was also in the house. He told police that 42-year-old James Christopher Lindsey had broken into the home by smashing a glass window with a hammer.
The man said he tried to stop Lindsey from attacking Kristin Stevens but was stabbed in the upper leg during the struggle.
After attacking the two victims, Lindsey fled the house before deputies could arrive. The man who survived called for help and is now recovering.
Later that morning, at about 5 a.m., Lindsey’s life came to a tragic end as well. He crashed his car while driving at speeds over 100 miles per hour, trying to outrun law enforcement officers in Orange County, Florida.
Police reported that Lindsey lost control of his vehicle, which caused him to be thrown from the car. He died at the scene. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
Authorities revealed that Lindsey and Stevens were in a troubled relationship for many years. They had a history of domestic violence dating back to 2014, with several incidents that required police involvement.
Sheriff Dennis Lemma expressed his deep sadness about the situation. He called it a “heartbreaking” event and extended his sympathy to the families and community. “This is a tragic and traumatic situation that has caused pain to many people,” he said. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
The local community has been left in shock by the violence and the loss of two lives within just a few hours. Many people are struggling to process what happened and are mourning the tragedy. Investigations into the stabbing and the high-speed crash are still ongoing. The sheriff’s office is working to provide answers and support for those affected.
