Five girls between the ages of 12 and 15 allegedly beat 64-year-old Reggie Brown to death in an alley on Oct. 17, 2023, authorities said
A teenage girl who admitted to being involved in the beating and death of an elderly man in Washington, D.C., testified in court this week.
Two other young girls are still facing first-degree murder charges for their alleged roles in the 2023 killing, according to various news reports.
Five girls, aged 12 to 15, are accused of beating 64-year-old Reggie Brown to death in an alley on October 17, 2023, according to authorities. The girls’ identities have not been shared publicly.
When police arrived at the scene, Brown was already dead. An autopsy confirmed he died from blunt-force trauma, and the police said it was a homicide.
The attack was reportedly caught on video, which was shown in court as two of the girls face first-degree murder charges.
The Washington Post reported that the video shows the five girls chasing Brown into an alley, pulling him off a fence, and stomping on his head. They also pulled down his pants, took his belt, and hit him with it. One girl can be heard cheering as Brown’s head started bleeding.
The 15-year-old girl who pleaded guilty for her role in the crime testified in court on October 15. She explained that she and her friends had been hanging out at a park before deciding to find someone to beat up because they were bored.
This girl was sentenced to three years in secured detention after admitting to a lesser charge. Another teen has also pleaded guilty but has not been sentenced yet.
During an earlier court session, a homicide detective testified that Brown was disabled. He had mental health problems, only two fingers on each hand, and a metal plate in his head. If the two girls on trial are found guilty, they could be held in detention until they turn 21, according to Washington D.C. law.
